CABEI presents its work strategy focused on sustainable development to Cuba
CABEI seeks to carry out work in this member country in coordination with other international financial entities for the benefit of its inhabitants.

the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Dante Mossi, began an official visit to Cuba to present the 2019-2024 Country Strategy, which will support the focus areas of Rural Development and Environment, Human Development and Social Infrastructure and Energy.“

Dr. Mossi stated that, "The Bank has worked with the authorities of the Government Cuba to prepare a Country Strategy that will enable to identify the country's development priorities and their alignment with CABEI's five-year strategy in order to achieve an effective technical and financial contribution to the welfare of the Cuban people.”

Noteworthy activities to be carried out during the official visit include exploring opportunities for collaboration with agencies of the United Nations, France, Spain and Korea in order to streamline resources that contribute to sustainable rural development, foster food availability and improve the nutritional status of households, as well as increasing rural families' capacities for adaptation and resilience. With regard to human development and social infrastructure, resources will be provided to increase water and sanitation coverage and invest in renewable energy sources to ensure the closing of electricity service gaps.

Cuba joined CABEI in 2017 as a result of the modifications to the Bank's Constitutive Agreement that entered into force in June 2016, giving it the possibility of financing projects for an amount of 212.8 million euros. This process complies with the political will expressed by the leaders of the SICA countries through the Declaration of Santo Domingo, in which they referred to the process of integrating the Caribbean Sea area with the rest of Central America.
